Harper to speak on abuse inquiry cash

Mr Harper is expected to give evidence by video link

FORMER deputy police chief Lenny Harper was due to give evidence to a review into a leaked report on the money spent on the historical child abuse inquiry this morning.

Mr Harper, the former senior investigating officer for the abuse inquiry, was expected to speak through a conference-call link to a panel reviewing the BDO Alto report which criticised him for excessive spending, including stays in London hotels and meals at top restaurants.

In a statement to the panel, Mr Harper, who left the Island after retiring as deputy head of the States of Jersey Police, has criticised the report, saying that by not raising their concerns with him, its authors ‘fatally damaged’ their work.
