Syvret: ‘I was protecting public’

FORMER Senator Stuart Syvret remained defiant yesterday as he told an appeal court it had been ‘absolutely necessary’ to name on his blog a nurse suspected of murdering patients in Jersey.

On the first day of his appeal hearing against convictions for breaking the data protection law, driving offences and contempt of court, the ex-politician said he had been protecting the public and should never have been prosecuted.

He described his conviction as a ‘miscarriage of justice’ that had been ‘riddled’ with politicisation throughout and urged the court to grant his appeal and throw out the charges against him.
