A former Jersey Centenier who was due to carry the Olympic torch this
summer, has been charged with indecently assaulting children. It is alleged Ralph Mauger committed the sexual offences on three different girls more than six years ago.
He was formally charged last week and since then has stepped down from his torch bearing duties.
As former head of the honorary police in Grouville - many see Mauger as an upstanding member of the local community.
So the news the 76-year-old has been charged with indecently assaulting children will come as a shock.
Following the charges, Ralph Mauger was held in prison over the weekend, and appeared in court on Monday.
He has been released on conditional bail and will appear in court again on the 23rd of April.
Ralph Mauger was among 16 islanders chosen to carry the olympic torch through Jersey this summer.
The recent charges have led him to resign from his duties - leaving the organising committee in London to decide if there will be a replacement.
