Sir Philip Bailhache
THE
chairman of the Electoral Commission is ‘optimistic’ about the task
ahead as the search continues for the people who will serve alongside
him.
Commission chairman Senator Sir Philip Bailhache and Privileges and Procedures Committee representative Senator Sarah Ferguson will also be involved in the selection process.
Privileges will then propose the three preferred candidates to the States and Members will be asked to approve those appointments in a few weeks. That proposition had been due to be lodged on 3 April; however it is likely to be delayed slightly. As a result, the States are likely to be asked to approve the appointments in the second half of May so that the commission can begin their work immediately.
