Health Minister Anne Pryke has admitted that the States were negligent Health Minister Anne Pryke has admitted that the States were negligent THREE ‘damaged’ children suffered years of sexual abuse and neglect because the authorities failed to take them into care despite being warned they were at risk, the Health Minister has admitted.
The children, known as ‘the X family’ to protect their identities, were sexually, physically and emotionally abused over several years from December 2000.
Lawyers representing the children argued that they should have been permanently removed from their parents and adopted by a new family in 1997, in the case of one child, and straight after their births in the case of the others.
Legal proceedings on behalf of the three siblings, who are now receiving specialist care in the UK, began last summer. In a late change to her case, Health Minister Anne Pryke has admitted that failings amounting to negligence by the States led to the children suffering abuse which otherwise could have been prevented.
